East Roundhouse Destroyed by Arson

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (May 14, 1990) - Firefighters battled a massive blaze here Monday that destroyed Roundhouse No. 2, also known as the East Roundhouse in Martinsburg.
The blaze was determined to have been caused by individuals who set fire to wood palettes stored in the building, which is owned by CSX Transportation.
As originally constructed in 1872, the East Roundhouse was an architectural "twin" of the West Roundhouse, but the building's roof inexplicably collapsed in 1873 and the structure was immediately re-built.
