Completion anticipated in 2024 (240-day contract). HVAC system installation underway by Appalachian Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. Project is funded by City of Martinsburg Recovery Grant funding ($125,000), Legislative Economic Development Assistance (LEDA) grant funding ($53,000) and funding commitment by Berkeley County Council.
The Martinsburg City Council and Berkeley County Council also awarded matching funds for the October 2020 award of $742,889 in grant funds for construction of an elevator, stairs and concrete floor. An addition for bathrooms has been completed on the back side of the building and a fire suppression system has been installed.
Mirroring the Capitol Market in Charleston, W.Va., our vision is attract year-round tenants and host a seasonal farmers market to provide fresh produce from Berkeley County and the greater Eastern Panhandle region in what is currently a "food desert" in the City of Martinsburg. Combined with must-see historic "edu-tainment" attractions and other community activities, the Marketplace project is anticipated to attract 3,000 people per day and create more than 45 jobs in the first year of operation.
